What size propane tank do I need?

This is where Pemi River Fuel’s more than 50 years of experience serving Grafton, Carroll and Belknap Counties comes in.

We’ve done both aboveground and underground propane tank installation and understand that our customers have individual needs and preferences, so one size most definitely does not fit all.

Here’s a guide to propane tank sizes, to give you an idea of what you’ll need for your New Hampshire home:

120-gallon tank: Our smallest propane tank is designed for water heating or space heating, and has enough storage to also power a propane range or a clothes dryer.

150-gallon tank: This is the tank for homes with low-Btu appliances that have smaller demands, such as a water heater or a range, as well as space heaters and wall heaters. But it is too small for whole-house heating with a boiler or a furnace.

250-gallon tank: If you run three or more propane appliances, such as a range, a water heater and a fireplace, this is likely the propane tank size for your home. But it is not large enough to run a furnace or a boiler.

500-gallon tank: Do you heat your home with propane? This tank size is for you. It is also large enough to run propane appliances such as ranges, water heaters or space heaters.

1,000-gallon tank: While this 16-foot-long tank is most commonly used in commercial applications, you may need it if your home is large, heated with a propane boiler or furnace, and uses several propane appliances, including high-Btu ones like pool and spa heaters.

We offer aboveground propane tanks between 120 and 1,000 gallons, while underground propane tanks range from 250 to 1,000 gallons.
